Our Story

Franz Continental Smallgoods has been proudly crafting traditional smallgoods on the Sunshine Coast since 1985, built on a passion for quality, heritage, and authentic European flavour.

Our story begins with Franz Born, a skilled German smallgoods maker who brought his trade and time-honoured techniques to Australia. With a commitment to traditional methods and authentic recipes, Franz established a small, hands-on operation in Caloundra, producing hams and German sausages and smallgoods the old-fashioned way. From the very beginning, quality craftsmanship and attention to detail were at the heart of everything we do.

As word spread, Franz Continental Smallgoods grew steadily throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, earning a strong reputation across South East Queensland. Local butchers, delis, and retailers came to rely on our products for their consistent quality and distinctive European character. While demand increased, we remained true to our roots, preserving traditional recipes and techniques that defined our brand.

With the merger of Franz Continental Smallgoods and Packed 'n Vacd in 2021, the business has expanded into broader retail and food service markets, evolving from a small artisan producer into a trusted regional manufacturer. With this growth came investment in modern production processes and food safety standards, allowing us to meet increasing demand while maintaining the integrity of our products. Packed 'n Vacd was the perfect partner to align with as they specialise in the preparation, packing, and distribution of deli-style food products including sliced meats, cheeses, anti-pasto, and other pre-packed food items. Merging these two companies together meant that we could still make and manufacture quality smallgoods, service the wholesale industry and now expand into the retail market.

Today, Franz Continental Smallgoods remains a proudly independent, privately family-owned Australian business, still based in Caloundra. We continue to combine traditional European craftsmanship with modern standards, supplying premium smallgoods to both retail and food service customers, whilst also expanding our factory shop outlet to cater for a broader range of European products.

While we've grown over the years, our philosophy remains unchanged: to honour heritage, respect traditional methods, and deliver quality smallgoods our customers can trust.
